An occasional branch is however occasionally given off from a larger bundle, but even it may be traced inwards into one of its secondary plexuses on further investigation. After passing through the granule layer, the nerve bundles range themselves directly into two subdivisions, which form almost distinct and separate plexuses, the Lieberkühniau and the villous. The former after penetrating slightly inward beyond the limits of the granular zone, begins to ramify in the adenoid tissue between the closed follicles, running over and between them, dividing and sub- dividing dichotomously with moderate frequency, and forming a very open plexus, which is to be met with in every direction between and upon the closed follicles, completely encircling them. From this Lieber- kühniau sub-plexus, very rarely offshoots join the nerves of the villi, but for the largest part the nerve supply is entirely distinct. Where the solitary glands are moderately closely set together the first sub-plexus is most easily seen, the bundles or single fibres are.
