A group of trekkers stand below snowcapped Himalayan peaks in the Indian state of Sikkim

Sikkim is a landlocked Indian state located in the Himalayan mountains, bordered by Nepal to the west, Tibet to the north and Bhutan to the east, it is the least populous state in India and the second-smallest state after Goa. The climate ranges from subtropical to high alpine, and Kangchenjunga, the world's third-highest peak, is located on Sikkim's border with Nepal with an elevation of 8,598 m (28,207 ft) it presents some of the most impressive high mountain scenery on earth. The mountains position east of the gap created by the Arun valley means that this region gets higher monsoon rainfall levels than most of the Himalaya and results in the surrounding lowlands having a tropical vegetation which helps to support a thriving agricultural economy
