Inflatable space habitat. Illustration of a possible future inflatable space habitat in low Earth orbit. The main body of this habitat is collapsed and folded during launch and then once in orbit inflated like a balloon with a pressurized and breathable atmosphere. It provides a comfortable weightless environment for several astronauts. The habitat includes containers for pressurization and a docking adapter compatible with the International Docking System Standard (IDSS) allowing it to dock with the International Space Station (ISS) and other compatible spacecraft. It has no propulsion system of its own. This habitat has an external diameter of about 9 metres and is orbiting the Earth at an altitude of about 400 kilometres.
