The route bus service in Malta comprises of over 500 buses, all of which are privately owned, in most cases by the drivers themselves. The fleet, deep yellow in colour with an orange band, are a collection of different models and hybrids. Some were built locally and others were imported second hand from Britain. Some 300 of the present route bus fleet have been on the road for more than 35 years.
