Apollo Command Module, cutaway illustration. This spacecraft was used during the Apollo programme which landed astronauts on the Moon. It was cone-shaped, with base diameter of metres. It housed a crew of three, as well as the main control panels, guidance and navigation systems, equipment lockers, food, and a docking tunnel (foreground). The Command Module was connected to the Service Module which provided propulsion. After completion of the mission the Service Module was jettisoned prior to the Command Module's re-entry and splashdown.
