A nomad woman potters around a picture filled with eminent lamas in her outside kitchen on the grasslands behind Tagong, Western Sichuan. Having lived on the vast grasslands of eastern Tibet for the last few thousand years, the fate of the nomads is now in jeopardy; forced migration and overgrazing witnessing depleting pastures, taxing and herd restrictions forcing many nomads to go bankrupt. The Chinese government has other plans for the vast landscape of eastern Tibet, including gas exploration and large scale faming of barley and wheat- although it is unsure if the environment is able to cope with such crops. Over 4500 meters, much of the area remains frozen for 6-9 months a year.
