17 year periodical Magicicada series - adult begins molting for exoskeleton

A 17-year Magicicada emerges from the exoskeleton of its earlier instar by molting the earlier form and allowing its new exoskeleton to harden in the open air. It will be a teneral intermediate form until its exoskeleton hardens. Below the remains of a cicada that molted earlier are visible.
