It was noted that theMormons had conquered prejudice and had effected akind of industrial revolution in languid Alta California. The enlistment term expired in January, but it wasMarch, 1848, before the men were paid off and of the 78 members of the company went northward,but one party of 22, led by Henry G. Boyle, taking a wagonand 135 mules, started to Salt Lake by way of the Mojavedesert, reaching its destination June 5.
