Female guanco with open mouth resting in a sandy depression, Chacabuco Valley, Patagonia
The Chacobuco valley is part of the Patagonia National Park, established by Kris and Doug Tompkins (deceased former owner of North Face) following their purchase and rehabilitation of the 174,500 acres (70,600 ha) Estancia Valle Chacabuco. Their non-profit foundation, Conservacion Patagonica, sold off livestock, took down fences, restored grasslands and forests, and developed species-specific restoration programs.
