The bridge over the Manuherikia River in the town of Alexandra in Central Otago New Zealand. The restored bridge is known locally as Shaky Bridge! The original bridge was built in 1879 for light traffic. Unfortunately another, better bridge was built over the Manuherikea River and the earlier bridge fell into disuse and disrepair. The ownership of the bridge changed and again failed to make money. In 1951 it was handed back to the local authority. Eventually a group of enthusiasts raised enough money to restore the bridge and reopen it for pedestrians. The structure, whilst sound, does wobble and shake, hence its name o Shaky Bridge.
