In the San Joaquin Valley, in Los Angeles County, and elsewhere in this State, it has been handled intelligently, and with the most gratifying results, put to the severest test on both "black" and "white" alkali lands, so strongly impregnated with the salts as to be regarded as utterly worthless. While the plant will grow in any soil that will sustain any other kind of vegetation, yet its greatest productiveness, so far as known, has been on strong alkali land. See also page 3 of cover.
