Antony Hewish (born 1924), British radio astronomer, at Mullard Radio Astronomy Observatory (MRAO), Cambridge, England. The MRAO radio telescopes are seen in the background. Hewish shared the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1974 for his work on radio aperture synthesis, which led to the discovery of pulsars. This discovery, which took place here at MRAO in 1967, was made by Jocelyn Bell Burnell, one of Hewish's graduate students. Photographed in 1989.
