There theboy attended the public schools, and laterwas graduated from the Hartford HighSchool. He entered the office of Beach& Company, as a clerk, and later repre-sented them on the road for some 1899 he went to Providence, and thento New Haven, where he engaged in thesame line of business. After the death ofCharles Beach, Mr. Bidwell bought thebusiness in Hartford, and carried it onsuccessfully until it was merged withother concerns under the name of theNational Chemical Works. Mr. Bidwell is a director of the EastHartford Trust Company; a member ofOrient Lodge, Free and Accepted Ma-sons, of East Hartford, of which he ispast master; Washington Commandery,No. I, Knights Templar; ConnecticutConsistory; and Sphinx Temple, AncientArabic Order Nobles of the MysticShrine. He is a Republican and has beenan energetic worker in the party, but hasnever aspired for office. He was chair-man of the school committee that builtthe Hartford High School a few yearsago, and a member of the High SchoolBuilding Committee. At the present timehe is a member of the finance board ofEast Hartford. He married (first) Har-riet Barber, and of this union were borntwo children, Helen and Everett.
