'The Surrender of two Sons of Tipoo Sultan' (1792), c1860. After the first siege of Seringapatam at the end of the third Anglo-Mysore War, 1789-1792, two sons of the deafeated Sultan of Mysore, Tipoo Sahib (Tipoo Sultan) (1753-1799) were handed as hostages to Charles Cornwallis (1738-1805), 1st Marquis Cornwallis, Governor General of India and commander-in-chief of the British forces.
