He waswounded and taken prisoner inthe battle of Chancellorsville ( Heights), in May, 1863, andafter being a prisoner for eightmonths, was exchanged by generalorder of the war department andmustered out of service in Fielder was in the engage-ment with Col. Van Houten whenthat officer was mortally wound-ed, and remained with him untilhis death, exposing himself to thegreatest peril, which ensured hissubsequent imprisonment. is a member of the G. A. R.,a past commander of post No. 3 andpost department commander of thestate of New Jersey.
