The knuckles ofthe fifth fingers are here easily kept firmly rounded up andstrengthened for the heavier task required of them in the adequate execution of octave passages, the bent thumb,arched knuckles, and strongly resisting fifth fingers are all-important. In view of the danger of straining the muscles ,practice should be limited to a few minutes at a time. Prac-ticing frequently in short groups, with restful pauses between,safeguards from strain, and rapidly increases ones facility aswell. The rhythms are applied as usual.
