Corridor with arched and vented ceiling in attic of the Casa Batllo, Barcelona

The building Casa Batlló located at Number 43 Passeig de Gràcia in Barcelona was designed and renovated by Antoni Gaudi between 1904 1906 for Josep Batlló, a wealthy aristocrat. Señor Batlló lived in the lower two floors with his family and the upper floors were rented out as apartments. The interior patio was enlarged and covered with ceramic tiles which are dark blue at the top, progressively getting lighter toward the ground floor, eventually reaching white. This achieves better distribution of the natural light.
