Southwest of Capitancillos Creek lies another parallelexposure of serpentine, contiguous to which the outcrops of the Costello mmesnre found. The Santa Teresa and Bernal mines are located in the serpentine of theSanta Teresa hills, and the North Almaden or Silver Creek mine close to those of themost northern ridge. In the latter a great part of the serpentine is very highlyaltered by silicification, as also the sandstones, a great portion of the rocks beingjaspilites. The western slope of the adjoining Mount Diablo range is nearly exclusivelyformed of shales. , , , , In this district the occurrence of cinnabar-carrying orebodies is clearly closeiyallied to that of serpentine, and as the New Alm
