Wooden footbridge in Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia

Plitvice Lakes National Park is one of the oldest and largest national parks in Croatia. It is world-famous for its lakes arranged in cascades. Sixteen lakes can be seen from the surface separated into an upper and lower cluster formed by runoff from the mountains. Wooden bridges and paths connect all the lakes. The park was inscribed on the UNESCO World Natural Heritage List in 1979
