Fig. I shows the style of transfer check used between two inwardcars and a similar check with the -word outward substituted forinward is used to transfer between cars going outward. The trans-fer between an inward and an outward car is made by means ofa special check on which the destinations of the cars are check is illustrated in Fig. 2. Checks are cancelled as to hour, day and month by the agent,and the transfer from one car to another is required to be madeat the station. One of the two exceptions mentioned is on theEast Boston division, known as the Island Ward, and where thelines terminate at the ferry, making no direct connection with carsof other divisions.
