'Death of Admiral Blake', 7 August 1657, (c1880). Robert Blake (1598-1657) was an important military commander of the Commonwealth of England and one of the most famous English admirals of the 17th century. He died of old wounds within sight of Plymouth and after lying in state in the Queen's House, Greenwich was given a full state funeral then buried in Westminster Abbey.
