John Atchison, Esq., of Bowling Green, Kentucky, and Dr. Atchison, of Nashville, Tennessee, a distinguished surgeon, whoreached the pinnacle of his profession and retired to the walks ofprivate life, possessed alike of great wealth and influence, are the onlynear relatives in this section, besides Benjamin F. Atchison, Esq ,of the great David Rice Atchison, whose fame as a jurist, soldier,scholar, statesman, citizen, lifts a column of glory to the skies, towhose splendor many men may turn their eyes, yet scarcely see anotherin the nineteenth century equaled by accumulated chronicles of deedsas noble, as faithful, as imperishable. General Atchison lived anddied a HON. J. C. S. BLACKBURN, Kentuckys Senator in Congress, Hon. J. C. S. Blackburn, is aman of remarkable eloquence, having at his command a vocabulary ofastonishing dimensions, which he puts to fluent use. His voice is full,rich, resonant, and, when he is upon the hustings advocating the rightsof the great national and now victorious Democratic party, it rings likea silver clarion, easily filling any auditorium to its boundaries with itsharmonious utterances. He was born in the county of Woodford inthe year 1S38. He is the youngest son of a large family of children^the eldest of which is ex-Governor Luke P. Blackburn, who is an oldand highly-respected citizen of Louisville, Ky., ripe in years and fullof honors. Judge Joseph H. Lewis, of the present Court of Appealsin Kentucky, is a brother-in-law.
