A distant view of Perth Bridge (also known as Smeaton's Bridge, locally, the Old Bridge that spans the River Tay, connecting Perth, on the western side of the river, to Bridgend, Perthshire, Scotland, on its eastern side. Built in 1771, it replaced an earlier bridge washed away in 1621, so for 150 years there was no bridge until it was finally replaced in the eighteenth century.
