Bodh Gaya is a major Buddhist pilgrimage site in India, known for the Bodhi tree under which the Buddha gained enlightenment.


Ambedkar Buddhist pilgrims from Maharastra visiting the Mahabodhi temple, on the north side of the complex. The boy is holding the Buddhist flag, originally designed in Sri Lanka in 1885. The colors represent the colors emanating from the Buddha's aura when he attained enlightenment. The Horizontal Stripes represent the races of the world living in harmony and the Vertical Stripes represent eternal world peace.
