In theabsence of pus or active inflammation, there is usually not much tenderness. Theprincipal signs are induration, without a definiteh^-outlined mass, and fixation. 8. Cellulitis. This may be acute or subacute. The induration is situated verylow and blends with the cervix. It may be a small mass or may fill all that side ofthe pelvis, extending out to the pelvic wall. As a rule its shape corresponds ap-proximately with the connective areas (Fig. 383). If the inflammation is in theparametrium (above the levator ani), it is immediately about the cervix (Fig. 384).If it is below the levator a
