Sickbed treatments. 16th-century illustration of a doctor (green robe), an alchemist (red robe), and a healer treating a patient in his bed watched by the man's wife. The doctor has prescribed a remedy, prepared by the alchemist using distillation techniques, and applied by the healer to the man's leg. A medicine jar and equipment are on the table. This is a page from 'Liber de arte distillandi de compositis' (1512), published in Strasbourg by German surgeon and alchemist Hieronymus Brunschwig (). This work is a practical manual on chemical, alchemical, and distillation devices, and techniques used to manufacture potions and drugs.
