Loki was punished by having a snake put above his head, whose venom poured on his face. His wife Sigyn collected the venom.

In Norse mythology, Loki is the personification/deity of mischief. He murdered Baldr, the god of joy and peace, and was punished by being bound to three slabs of stone with the entrails of his son Narfi. A snake was placed above his head, whose venom poured on his face. Loki's wife Sigyn collected the venom in a bowl, but had to empty it periodically. When she did, Loki could not protect his face from the searing poison.
