140826-N-ZE250-447 DARDANELLES STRAIGHTS (Aug. 26, 2014) A pilot comes aboard Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Vella Gulf (CG 72) to guide the ship through the Dardanelles Straights in route to the Mediteranean Sea. Vella Gulf, homeported in Norfolk, Va., is conducting naval operations with allies in the 6th Fleet area of operations in order to advance security and stability in Europe.
