He completed hispreparatory school work at the .\tlanta HighSchool in 1915, and then Southwestern Universityclaimed his attention for a year or so. Convincedthat he could do better in the pursuit of knowl-edge at Washington and Lee. he accordingly madehis appearance in Lexington in 1917. He woul<lhave obtained his degree last year had thelittle unpleasantness with Germany not in-terfered with his work.
