Simikot is the main center hub to Karnali, Humla district of Far Western Development Region of Nepal. This district is only air connected from Kathmandu-Nepaljung-Simikot or Kathmandu-Nepaljung-Surkhet-Simikot. This is a old trade route to Taklakot, Manasarobar, Mt. Kailash of Tibet, China for the Far Western Remote Areas of Nepal. Now Simikot Airport is trying to Blacktop, it is now completed half blacktop in 2010. Nepal government have been trying to join the motor-able road from Surkhet-Simikot -Hilsa. Hilsa is a transit point of Nepal- Tibet cross boarder after Nara-La pass 4500M height. Karnali district specially above Simikot valley almost half year covered by snow and there is no more rice paddy for enough food, is known by food scarcity FAO and World Food Program distributed as "Work for Food". Half a year they put their cows inside the house with collected hey and foods, all the streams have been frozen in this season. Peoples are so poor and wrinkles appears even in their young age because of the low humidity. Special food is rice from Nepaljung and Tibet and locally harvested Humla rice, apple, buckwheat and Nak milk and milk products. (Yak-Mail, Nak-Female)
