The father of our subject was rearedin the coal regions of Luzerne comity, and from theage of eighteen up to the time of his death, whichoccurred at Brooklyn, N. Y., May 26, i8qo, he *asemployed as a railroad engineer, being the oldestin America when called from this life. The motherwas horn August 17, 1817, on a part of the presenlfarm of our subject, and died February 14, i88(>.Her parents were Frederick and Catherine (Ken-ard) Wagner, natives of Holland, who on coming tothis country located at Plains, Luzerne Co., Penn.,where her father engaged in farming.
