Hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata), 19th century artwork. This lithograph by Edward Lear (1812-1888) is based on a drawing by James de Carle Sowerby (1787-1871). The artwork is Plate 57 from 'A Monograph of the Testudinata' by Thomas Bell (1792-1880), published between 1836 and 1842. The alternative taxonomic name (synonym) used at the time is at lower centre: Chelonia imbricata.
