The taxi sector has taken to the streets again this Wednesday against the "aberration" that the modification of the Transport Law approved by the Governing Council and that the Madrid Assembly votes tomorrow with which the Regional Executive regulates the situation of Transport Vehicles with Drivers (VTC) that seeks "in the medium term to put an end to the taxi". This has been expressed by the president of the Madrid Taxi Professional Federation, Julio Sanz, who has charged the regional government for processing this modification by "single reading", making it impossible for the rest of the political groups to contribute and compose "a text more or less consensual". This rule comes to face the requirement of the so-called 'Ábalos Decree', approved in 2018, which established that the VTCs could not carry out their activity from October 2022 if the autonomies did not regulate them. For the FPTM, convener of the act, this rule is a "tailor-made suit for four opportunists" who have "thousands of authorizations" from VTC that are providing a service "as if it were a taxi" but without their "obligations and instructions ". "If they want to be able to live together, they must differentiate themselves," he stressed. At 10:00 the caravan of taxis arrived at the Plaza de Cibeles from Neptuno and started their march towards the Puerta del Sol preceded by four 'costaleros' carrying a pace made up of a mountain of banknotes with the face of the president in which is accused of "selling" to the VTC sector and with the ranchera 'El Rey' as background music. On the main banner it has been possible to read 'For compliance with Law 1 VTC / 30 taxis'.
