Burscough Lancashire; UK Weather. 26th Oct, 2019. An estimated 48,800 migrant arrive at dusk to roost at the Martin Mere nature reserve where late closing allows local residents to enjoy the spectacle of returning geese. Pinkies or pink footed geese signal the arrival of winter on the Sefton coast as the huge flocks of migrant pink foot geese arrive from northern climes to overwinter in England. Thousands of “Pinkies” spend the winter months, grazing and foraging on the West Lancashire farmlands during the day and roosting on the Estuary grasslands. Credit: MediaWorldImages/AlamyLiveNews

The pink-footed goose is a goose which breeds in eastern Greenland, Iceland and Svalbard. It is migratory, wintering in northwest Europe, especially Ireland, Great Britain, the Netherlands, and western Denmark. The name is often abbreviated in colloquial usage to "pinkfoot".
