Downy Woodpecker (Picoides pubescens) . A woodpecker with straight, chisel-like bill, blocky head and straight back clings to the side of a tree. They're identified by checkered black-and-white wings and a bold stripe on their head. Males, like the one pictured here, have a red patch on the back of their head.
