A balloon used for cosmic ray research is inflated at Cardington, Bedfordshire, in the 1950s. The balloon was used to carry stacks of special photographic emulsion into the upper atmosphere. The emulsion recorded the tracks of primary cosmic rays from outer space & their interactions with atomic nuclei in the upper atmosphere.
