"Pettifox", copy of a French Camaret crabber, built by Alfred Hicks and Peter Martin in Isles of Scilly: moored in the Helford River, Cornwall. B/W

Pettifox was built in 1992 by Peter Martin and Alfie Hicks and is the last sailing boat to be built on the Isles of Scilly. Pettifox is a replica of a Breton Camaret Crabber (langoustier) to a design by Francois Vivier, built of larch on oak timber frames, 11 meters in length and a gross tonnage of 12 tons. She is, unusually for a gaff-rigged cutter, capable of taking the ground, so can sail into small and drying harbours and can nudge into quite shallow water, mooring off many secluded beaches.
