Himalayan lammergeier (Gypaetus barbatus) also known as a Bearded Vulture on the wing above the Khumbu Glacier moraine at Lobuche.
Meaning "lamb-eagle", the lammergeier was incorrected attributed as having the same hunting traits of the Golden Eagle when in fact it is a scavenger that picks over the bones of carcasses The bird prefers high, rocky mountain ranges across Europe, Asia and Africa and its numbers are in steady decline across the range. In the Old Testement, the bird is referred to as the ossifrage. The bird's wingspan is up to 9 feet.
