The opera house in Leipzig, a city in the eastern German state of Saxony. Badly damaged in World War II, and physically neglected by the old communist East German government, it has been rebuilding itself since German reunification in 1990. An air raid in 1943 destroyed the previous building on this site. The present house was opened in 1960.
