Purchasers cannot see why flowers at retail sell at prices equal to those of a year ago, while practically everything else they buy is on the to- boggan, and, now that flowers are com- ing in more abundantly, it would seem to be an opportune time to give the flower buying public a chance to buy at reduced rates. Roses are lower. Beauties are all of the better grades and these keep up well in price, but hybrid teas have dropped considerably. There is little demand for fancy flowers, 9-inch to 21-inch stock being mostly in demand. Carnations have also declined in value and the milder weather is greatly increasing the cut of these. It seems somewhat strange to see fancy carnations, like Laddie, sell- ing cheaper than tulips or daffodils and good, standard varieties not reaching much more than half as much as Golden Spur daffodils. Violets are down below the dollar mark and have declined more than pansies. Lilium longiflorum moves slowly at $15 per hundred and callas have dropped to $20. Mignonette is hard to sell, ex- cept some of the fancy grades. The supply of marguerites is increasing, also of calendulas and bachelor's buttons. Tulips and daffodils are lower, but move fairly well. Freesias are variable in price, as in quality, and there is no
