Flowers in bloom in the small square in Monreuil, a few miles inland from Boulogne in Northern France. Victor Hugo who wrote the play ‘Les Misrables’ stayed in the small town during his brief stay. British forces, Field Marshal Douglas Haig, had his in the town. He commanded the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) on the Western Front from late 1915 until the end of the war.
