British battleship "HMS Royal Sovereign" returning from the , 1949
Lent to the Soviet navy between 1944 and 1949 (rebaptized "Arkangelsk"), British battleship "HMS Royal Sovereign" returned to Great Britain with a Russian crew, February 4, 1949. The "Royal Sovereign" belonged to the class of the same name, made up of five units. Begun on April 29, 1915 by the Parsons Shipyards in Portsmouth, the "Royal Sovereign" participated in World War I operations and was quite active during the Second, taking part in convoy escorts in the Atlantic and Pacific. It was demolished in 1949.
