The presence ofthese mites may be easily detected by anexamination of the leaves, which have adrooping appearance. The young spiders wander all over the surface ofthe leaves, feeding in different places by puncturing them. These punc-tures give the leaves a mottled appearance when examined through alens. It is this terrible sapping of the leaf which causes it to have thatunthrifty look, and naturally is the result of the sap being taken bythese minute Fig. 25.
