Fishing hook with a wandering albatross (Diomedea exulans). The hook was found at a nesting site for wandering albatrosses, and was regurgitated by one of these seabirds. The hooks are swallowed as they dive for fish at sea, often with fatal results. If the bird is rare, the survival of the species may be threatened. The hooks are from the long fishing lines of commercial fishing fleets. Photographed on Bird Island, South Georgia, southern Atlantic Ocean.
