Cre-Lox recombination. Molecular model of the enzyme CRE (cyclization recombination) recombinase (blue) mediating the recombination of strands of DNA

Cre-Lox recombination. Molecular model of the enzyme CRE (cyclization recombination) recombinase (blue) mediating the recombination of strands of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid, pink and yellow). It is doing this at a specific target sequence, called the Lox sequence, found in the bacteriophage P1. Cre-Lox recombination is used in genetically modified organisms to allow researchers to control gene expression and delete or insert DNA sequences.
