No one be-lieved that the road would not push on to adestination in the heart of the rich, virgin terri-tory, and the railroad promoters, to all intentsand purposes, themselves entertained the idea,vmtil complications arose and financial diffi-culties appeared which blocked progress andthe railroad stopped on the eastern edge of thecounty. Many settlers came in 1887. That was thebanner year up to that period. Nearly allcame into the county by way of Ellensburg,that being the nearest railroad point prior tothe building of the Central Washington a fewyears later. There were lively times in CouleeCity
