Therefore with some interest we received from an inde-fatigable correspondent, Mr. W. R. Brodie, some vertebra?which demonstrate, as conclusively as vertebra; can, the exist-ence in the Portland Limestone of a ncAV species of Plesio-saurus. They were found by Mr. Brodie at the Winspit * Communicated bv the author, having been read before the CambridgePhilosophical Society, May 30,1870. 182 Mr. H. G. Oolite, Winspit, Purbeck. from the Portland Limestone. 183 Cervical vertebra.—The centrum measures 2 inclies fromback to front at its base, and is slightly longer under theneural arch. The articular surface of the centrum is elliptical,2i inches broad, and nearly 2 inches high. It is very slightlyand regularly concave, so as toappear nearly flat; and in thecentre there is a small suddendepression, as in PliosavrvshrachyspondyJus (Owen). Themargin under the neural canalis concave; and the remainderof the margin of the articularsurface of the centrum is ob-liquely bevelled, as is oftenseen in cervical vertebras ofPlesiosaurs. The base of thecentrum is concave from backto front, in which directionthere is a moderate ridge me-sially, with the usual nutritiveforamen on each side of it; theinterspace between these fora-mina is a quarter of an inch
