Oesophagus squamous papilla, light micrograph

Light micrograph of an oesophagus papilla cross section. The squamous cells of the oesophagus epithelium (lining layer) form projections called papilla. In this image, a cross section of a papilla is seen, with the lining cells forming a flower-like arrangement around a central vascular core containing blood cells (central bright red dots). Haematoxylin and eosin stained tissue section. Magnification: 400x when printed at 10cm.
