Thousands of people have taken part in the Morrisons Great South Run in Hampshire. It is believed that more than 25,000 people have taken part in the annual event. The people of Portsmouth lined the streets to support the brave runners. Vivian Cheruiyot, the world 10,000m champion, won the elite women's race with a time of 51m 1 sec with the UK's Jo Pavey in second place. Ugandan Moses Kipsiro won the men's elite race, completing the course in 46 minutes, with Kenyan Emmanuel Kipsang narrowly beating countryman Emmanuel Bett to second. Runner and Strictly Come Dancing contestant Iwan Thomas did a time of 63 minutes, one minute off his personal best, He ran through the crowds for a Southampton charity. Speaking to the Daily Echo he said: "I did great, considering I did my leg in twice last week. It's great conditions out there, I'm running for the Saints Foundation which is dangerous in Portsmouth but people were cheering me on. "I'm an ambassador for them, they do great work, I'm proud to be associated with them." ©UKNIP
