. Official proceedings . j/2 lbs. except while the auxiliary reservoir pressure is beingreduced by the insuring valve at a rate too rajnd to be af-fected by ring leakage. The diagram of Figure 32 shows the ports and check valvein the AB emergency portion which provide the feature of ac-celerated release after emergency. At the start of release after emergency the biake pipe pressureis zero or atmosphere and the two reservoirs and the brake cylinderare equalized at 60 lbs. as shown in the simple diagram ofFigure 33. When the brake ])ipe ]:)rcssure is Iniilt up to a value of about20 lbs. the emergency piston and slide valve move to their releaseposition shown in Figure lii. This movement of the emergencyslide valve isolates the emergency reservoir and connects the com-bined volume of the brake cylinder and auxiliary reservoir to thebrake pipe as shown. The simple diagram of Figure 34 shows the pressure condi-tions at the service portion piston when the emergency portionmoves to release as described. 68. 5 ^^^^ 69 The diagram of Figure 35 illustrates the pressure changesfrom those shown in Figure 3Jr which are quickly accomplishedby the flow of auxiliary reservoir and brake cylinder pressureto the brake i)ipe. It will be noted that the brake pipe pres-sure rises quickly from 20 to 37 lbs. and the auxiliary reservoir])ressure reduces from 60 to 48 lbs. which is about the same\alue as would be encountered when releasing after a full serv-ice application. \\hen the brake pipe pressure is raised from 37 to 49^^lbs. as shown in Figure 3G, the Ij^ lbs. release differential issufficient to open the release insuring feature and the valve isreleased promptly. The reduction of auxiliary reservoir pres-sure by the action of the release insuring feature, in case ofhigh slide valve friction, is shown graphicallv in Figure 37.
